Research
Tom Bakker Schut - Director Research:
Tom has over 15 years of experience in development and biomedical application of technology for optical measurements of biological cells and tissue, including flow cytometry, micro-spectroscopic image analysis, and advanced Raman instrumentation and methods. He is an expert in multivariate data analysis techniques and chemometrics. He holds a Ph.D. in Applied Physics. Tom joined River Diagnostics in 2004.
Peter Caspers - Senior Scientist:
Peter has over 12 years of experience in the development of instrumentation, methodology, and applications of Raman spectroscopy for measurements in living tissue. His 2003 Ph.D. thesis is the definitive work demonstrating the scientific feasibility and the potential utility of Raman spectroscopy for in vivo skin analysis. Peter joined River Diagnostics in 2004.
Elena Sokolova – Opto-Mechanical engineer:
Elena has over 20 years of experience in R&D and application of spectroscopic devices. She authored over 50 publications, and holds a PhD and Dr. Sc in Optical Engineering. Elena Joined River Diagnostics in 2007 and is responsible for optical design. Previously, she was a senior scientist at TNO Science and Industry, an assistant professor at Beira Interior University (Portugal), and various positions at the State Vavilov Optical Institut and LOMO (both Russia).
Diana Willemse-Erix – Senior technician microbiology
Diana has over 17 years of experience in development and application of molecular techniques for the characterization of microorganisms. Since 4 years she is involved in the development of Raman spectroscopy based protocols for the real-time typing of bacterial species. She holds a Bachelor degree in life science. Diana joined River Diagnostics in april 2008.
Jan Willem Jachtenberg
Heli Tervahauta - Customer Application Specialist
Heli joined the River Diagnostics Microbiology group in July 2008. She holds a masters degree in Analytical Chemistry. Her current duties include development of product applications and training materials for the SpectraCell RATM system.
