Quantification of molecular composition
Raman spectra of cells and tissues are complex, because every molecule in the sample contributes its signal to the overall spectrum.
Raman spectra provide detailed quantitative information about molecular composition, if it is known or can be determined which molecular species are present in measurable quantities.
For example, In River Diagnostics’ Model 3510 Skin Composition Analyzer in vivo skin spectra are modelled with spectra of individual molecular species known to be present in the skin. The intensity of their signal contribution is dependent on their concentration.
